Trim Level
The 2022 Ram 1500 is available in eight trims: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. You can also choose among two cabs: Quad and Crew. Most Crew cab models give you a choice of a long (6-foot-4-inch) or short (5-foot-7-inch) bed.
Engine
Not only does the 2022 Ram 1500 offer a variety of trim, cab, and bed options, but its engine choices are just as numerous. To maximize your choice, select the best powertrain to meet whatever your towing and hauling needs are. Its base 3.6-liter V-6 engine with an eTorque mild-hybrid system boosts the torque amount during acceleration. It produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque.
For serious towing, opt for one of the two 5.7-liter V-8 engines that produce 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The difference between the two is that one has a mild-hybrid system while the other doesn't. It also offers a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine that gets 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
The engine options don't stop with the V-6 and V-8 engine options. On the TRX model sits a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that cranks out a whopping 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. This is the same engine found under the hood of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. No matter what engine your Ram 1500 has, they all come with the same smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. All models come with four-wheel drive.
Performance
As for fuel economy, the 2022 Ram 1500 achieves decent numbers. With the base engine and rear-wheel drive, the truck gets an estimated 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The most fuel-efficient drivetrain is the turbodiesel, which returns ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The supercharged V-8 gets only 10 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway, but it is a far more powerful engine. Also, when properly equipped, the truck has a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds and a hauling capacity of 2,300 pounds.
Interior
The cabin of the 2022 Ram 1500 is a step above most of its competitors, thanks to an abundance of premium materials. Upper trims include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Its uConnect infotainment system works well, and its standard 5-inch touch-screen display responds quickly. You can add on other technology features such as wireless device charging and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
Safety Features
Although the 2022 Ram 1500 only comes with a standard rearview camera, it more than makes up for it with more than a dozen available add-on features. Some of these features include blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view parking camera system, and adaptive cruise control.
