Red Lion, PA is a small and peaceful town with a high quality of life and a rich musical heritage. There are many nearby parks and green spaces, including a few picturesque lakes. This nearness to nature makes for excellent biking terrain, and if you’re in the mood for a cycle, you have plenty of biking trails to choose from. Here are a few of the best in the area.

Heritage Rail Trail Parking

This lengthy trail offers 21 miles of mostly flat paved paths through the glorious natural scenery of a long, linear well-tended park. The path is perfect for a relaxed ride with the family on a sunny summer’s day.  It follows the route of a disused railway line. There are plenty of picnic tables, benches, and restrooms along the route, all kept in good condition.

You’ll also see some interesting historic landmarks as you ride, including Howard Tunnel, New Freedom Train Station, and four impressive railroad bridges. You can park and start the trail at Brillhart Station road in York, a short drive to the north of Red Lion.

William Kain Park Trails

A three-mile drive to the west of town brings to this glorious lakeside park that’s packed with excellent bike paths. The moderately difficult 2A to 2C Loop trail offers 3.3 miles of lakeside pathway. It’s a very popular trail, and for a little more of both solitude and challenge, you can try out the 14-mile Lake Williams and Lake Redman loop, which takes you on a fun and tough journey around two lakes.

For both trails, there are many places to stop and enjoy a picnic with lovely views or even do a spot of fishing. The drive to the park is itself a joy. Roll down the automatic windows of your 2022 Jeep Compass and enjoy the fresh lakeside air as you travel. You can enter William Kain Park to begin at 274 Hess Farm Rd and a few other locations.

Rocky Ridge Park Trails

A short drive to the north of town brings you to this marvelous park that’s ideal for mountain bikers. There are at least seven bike paths to choose from here. One of the best is the short, fun Rusty Chair Trail, which is considered to be moderately difficult. At the top, it offers the challenge of rocky areas of the path, and at the bottom, there are plenty of winding banks and turns to navigate.

This park is full of similarly short but interesting trails with challenging slopes and rocky sections. There’s enough to keep you entertained over several visits.
