Dodge Lineup In a market that’s increasingly selling mostly trucks and SUVs, it’s quite surprising that the muscle car isn’t just surviving but even flourishing. A muscle car like the Dodge Challenger, for instance, achieved record-setting third-quarter sales in 2019. Launched in 1970, the iconic Challenger is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In celebration, Dodge launched a 50th Anniversary Edition model, which arrived at dealers a bit earlier this year. Here’s a short overview of the iconic Challenger and what the 50th Anniversary Edition has to offer.

The Dodge Challenger

The Dodge Challenger is a vehicle that has largely shaped the muscle car industry in the U.S. Today, it’s one of only a few muscle cars that has stayed true to its 1970 origins. In an era where efficiency has become key, this muscle car is still all about brute horsepower, attitude, and customization. Apart from fact that the Challenger can be optioned in an array of wild paint colors, styling add-ons, and exciting graphics packages, it offers throaty V-8s that can kick out as much as an unbelievable 797 horsepower.

The 50th Anniversary Edition

The 50th Anniversary Appearance package, as the name suggests, is all about aesthetic details. You can opt for this package with four Challenger trims, namely the GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, and R/T Scat Pack Widebody. As the anniversary package adds aesthetic upgrades only, all 50th Anniversary models retain the powertrains of each of the four available trims.

In celebration of the fact that the first Challenger came to the market in 1970, Dodge decided to produce 70 units of this special edition in each color and trim, and each model comes with a dashboard placard indicating its number out of 70.

Unique Exterior

To celebrate the golden age of the muscle car and also the Challenger’s golden anniversary, Dodge brought back the iconic Shaker hood with this special edition, as well as a brand-new exterior paint color, aptly named “Gold Rush.” You can, however, also have your 50th Anniversary model in six other available colors: TorRed, Go Mango, F8 Green, Frostbite, Sinamon Stick, and Hellraisin.

The exterior color is juxtaposed by a Satin Black hood, roof, fuel filler door, and rear deck, which makes for an exciting two-tone look. In addition, this special-edition model receives 50th Anniversary badging and 20-inch wheels with a special paint finish, called “Gold School.”

Upscale Interior

The interior of the anniversary model also receives several exclusive touches, such as Nappa leather with Alcantara-suede inserts upholstery with sepia-accent stitching and real carbon-fiber accents throughout the cabin. The sepia stitching, which reminds of the old-school era in which the muscle car was born, is repeated on the dashboard and steering wheel. Another retro styling cue is the unique instrument cluster that features a yellow stripe around the gauge dials. As is the case with the exterior, the interior features the 50th Anniversary logo, for instance, on the floor mats.

The Challenger 50th Anniversary pays homage to a time gone by with retro styling cues, while simultaneously retaining the modern conveniences and performance features of the available four Challenger trims.
